Since his childhood, death and religion played an important role in Daniel Martin Diaz’s and his family’s life. His parents were born in Mexico and lived with traditional belief’s. These beliefs and the fact that many of them render no logical explanation has influenced the artist and his work.
In his first Solo exhibition in Canada (Sacred Machine), Daniel Martin Diaz continues to explore these unanswered questions and to evoke the mystery, fear and irony of his vivid memories.
Sacred Machine will also be part of the official opening celebrations of the new location of the Yves La Roche Gallery in Montreal. The opening will be on Wednesday June 9th 2010 6-9pm and will also be be showing Looking East a multi disciplinary group exhibition by guest curator Justin Giarla (White Walls/Shooting Gallery, San Francisco US). As well, there will be Special musical performances by Jacob et Francis and Le Matos. Artists will be present.
