Despite what many doctors would diagnose, spending a lot of time under the hot Australian sun was very healthy to Bruce Munro’s ideas. According to the artist, who’s already known for his light sculptures and installations, the sun effects are a constant inspiration on his day-to-day life. After a long time meditating on Sydney’s harbor beaches, these sun impressions led him to create the CD Sea installation.
After collecting over 600,000 unwanted CD’s, Munro held the installation on June 19/20 with help from friends and colleagues. The result is the bluish sea you can see below. Munro revealed this is the first of a series of installations to use discarded material on its composition.
