Controversial as usual, British graffiti artist Banksy has created an uncommon opening sequence for The Simpsons animation series. It depicts Springfield filled with tagged billboards and piles of burning tires. As Bart writes on the school’s blackboard “I must not write all over the walls”, Kearney and Jimbo Jones depredate the bust of Jebediah Springfield, the founder of the town.
In the end, the artist continues his provocative plot showing oriental workers under bad hygiene and safety conditions, working without interruption on the production of DVDs, toys, t-shirts and other products from de series. The sinister environment even shows animals being killed or exploited as labor.
According to the BBC website, the ending was inspired by rumors that the animation’s producers outsource part of the work for a company located in South Korea.
